Hop on a freeway from any point in Southern California and head west to the Pacific where beautiful blue sky, sand and towering waves meet. Most of the beaches in Southern Cal are great places to surf, play volleyball, ride or skate on a bike path, or just watch the people.


Santa Monica Beach - Lets begin with one of the most popular beaches in LA County, Santa Monica. The famous Santa Monica Pier sits on about a two-mile stretch of wondrous California beach. The beach is located where Interstate 10 and the Pacific Coast Highway intersect. The city of Santa Monica is located about 12 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles. Santa Monica has fabulous restaurants and cafes, fine hotels and funky shopping areas. Just an hour away to places like Hollywood, Universal Studios and Disneyland. The Pier is worth the trip.
Venice/Muscle Beach - Pump iron or just ride the bike path and do some people watching. Located near Los Angeles, Venice beach is not the cleanest beach, but always good for a look. Lots of street vendors here in the summer months. You may want to visit this beach so the next time you see it on TV, you can say you were there.
Manhattan Beach is located in Los Angeles County, just 3 miles south of Los Angeles International Airport and 19 miles southwest of Los Angeles on the southerly end of Santa Monica Bay. A scenic 928-foot-long pier at the end of Manhattan Beach Boulevard offers fishing all year. The pier is free to the public.
Hermosa Beach is a great spot to surf, play volleyball, or take a ride on the bike path. In the summer it has a fun and busy atmosphere, but manages to keep a laid back attitude. The Hermosa pier is recently renovated. Bike and skate rentals are available and the bike path runs north and south for miles. Volleyball courts are also available.
Redondo Beach is a family-oriented beach, because of its proximity to the pier. This narrow beach has a beautiful view of the
Palos Verdes Peninsula. There are tons of activities to keep you busy all day, and a nice beach break for the surfers.
Queen Mary Seaport - A great steamship from an era long ago when transoceanic travel was at its peak. It is permanently docked on Long Beach Harbor for visitors to enjoy. Shop in colorful shops after exploring the historical corridors of the ship. Check out Shoreline Village which is opposite the Queen Mary. Lots of interesting shops here with pretty good waterfront restaurants. Also within walking distance to the Long Beach Aquarium.
